Dodgers’ Ryu Hyun-jin picks up his 4th win of the season in his return

Ryu Hyun-jin was sensational for five innings in his return. He ran into trouble in the sixth, but that didn’t stop him from collecting his fourth win of the season.

In his first start in 24 days, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Korean left-hander breezed through first five innings against the New York Mets in Citi Field. What he came out throwing must have looked like Aspirin tablets to the Mets hitters, as he rang up eight strikeouts in just four innings.

Solo home runs by Adrian Gonzalez (12^thof the year), Yasiel Puig (10^th) and Hanley Ramirez (7^th) staked Ryu to a 3-0 lead.

But, after erasing the leadoff single by inducing a double play ground ball in the sixth, Ryu allowed a two-out single to Curtis Granderson and a two-run shot to rookie first baseman Eric Campbell to make it a one-run game.

Ryu finished the troubled inning by registering his ninth strikeout of the game, but was replaced in the seventh by Brandon League.

The Dodgers added a run in the eighth to insure Ryu’s first win since April 17.

Ryu (4-2) allowed nine hits, one walk and two earned runs over six innings. His ERA remained unchanged at 3.00.

The Dodgers improved to 25-22 with a 4-3 win, and the Mets fell to 20-25.
