Super Junior’s Ryeowook postpones military conscription

SEOUL, (Yonhap) — Ryeowook of South Korean boy group Super Junior pushed back the conscription date for his compulsory military service, the singer’s agency said on Thursday.

The 28-year-old was originally set to begin military service on Tuesday, but postponed the date to participate in an overseas event with his group in Latin America, according to S.M. Entertainment. The event is “an engagement that Super Junior promised to its fans” that Ryeowook insisted on keeping, the agency said.

Ryeowook will leave for conscription immediately after completing the overseas schedule for the ongoing special event “Super Camp.”

“Ryeowook will fully engage himself in his military duty, once he gets a new conscription date,” an S.M. Entertainment official said.

All able-bodied South Korean men between the ages of 18 and 35 must serve in the military for about two years. The country remains technically at war with North Korea, a legacy of the 1950-53 Korean War that ended in an armistice, not a peace treaty.
