Southland Gasoline Prices Rise Sharply

The largest daily increase since Sept. 14

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose 1.6 cents today, the largest daily increase since Sept. 14.

After eight consecutive days of increases, the average price stands at $3.648, 3.6 cents more than one week ago but 4.8 cents less than one month ago and 44.3 cents lower than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The Orange County average price also rose today by 1.6 cents, its largest daily increase since Dec. 28. It has risen seven of the past nine days to $3.642, 3.6 cents more than one week ago but 3.9 cents less than one month ago and 43.9 cents lower than one year ago.

The rising prices are the result of reduced gasoline production amid refinery maintenance, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.
