Retired Korean sheriff’s deputy to be arraigned for discharging firearm after being pranked
SANTA CLARITA (CNS) – A retired Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy accused of firing a gun into the air last year in response to a children’s prank is scheduled to be arraigned today on a misdemeanor count.
Sung Jin Pak, 48, is accused of discharging a firearm with gross negligence, according to Deputy District Attorney Jeffrey Gootman.
Pak, who was still with the sheriff’s department at the time, allegedly chased after a group of children and fired his gun into the air last Oct. 12 after the youths repeatedly ran away after ringing the doorbell at his Stevenson Ranch home, according to the prosecutor.
If convicted as charged, Pak faces up to 365 days in county jail, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
