SEOUL, Sept. 27 (Yonhap) — South Korea’s national football team head coach Paulo Bento will return from his Europe trip this weekend to prepare for friendly matches in October, the national football governing body said Thursday.

The Korea Football Association (KFA) said Bento will land in South Korea on Sunday after completing his schedule in Europe. The 49-year-old Portuguese, who took South Korea’s helm last month, departed for London last Friday to attend the FIFA Football Conference and the FIFA Football Awards. He then traveled to Portugal to meet his family.

The KFA said Bento, who signed a four-year contract through the 2022 FIFA World Cup, will reside at an apartment in Goyang, north of Seoul, once he returns to South Korea. Goyang is a city close to the National Football Center (NFC) in Paju, the training venue for the national team where Bento’s office is also located.

The KFA said Bento will announce the roster for South Korea’s October friendlies on Monday. The Taeguk Warriors are scheduled to face Uruguay on Oct. 12 in Seoul and to take on Panama on Oct. 16 in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province.

Bento will then train with the national team members at the NFC from Oct. 8.

Bento has so far collected one win and one draw with South Korea. He had a 2-0 win in his South Korea coach debut against Costa Rica and earned a 0-0 draw against Chile.

Before departing for London, Bento watched K League 1 matches and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League quarterfinal match between Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and Suwon Samsung Bluewings. He also met with South Korea’s under-23 and under-19 football coaches to discuss cooperation between their teams.
