A proposal to name a section of Broad Avenue as “Korea Way” in Palisades Park, New Jersey, is on its way to reality.

Jong Chul Lee, who was newly appointed as deputy mayor this week, has been named head of the project committee by Mayor James Rotundo.

Lee will select two councilmembers to join the committee and gather community suggestions in regards to the proposal.

In a borough where half the population is of Korean ancestry, Broad Avenue is home to the largest number of Korean businesses.

“As deputy mayor, I let Mayor Rotundo know about my passion for the Korea Way project, and he in turn asked me to head the project,” Lee said. “If there are no problems, the words ‘Korea Way’ will be installed beneath the road sign that currently says ‘Broad Avenue.’”
