Obama to deliver UCI commencement speech at Angel Stadium

June 6, 2014

ANAHEIM (CNS) – President Barack Obama will deliver the UC Irvine commencement speech at Angel Stadium in Anaheim on June 14, the White House announced today.

The president and first lady Michelle Obama are scheduled to arrive in the Southland June 13, and first travel to Palm Springs.

The following day, Obama is scheduled to take part in a roundtable discussion in Laguna Beach with about 25 supporters who contribute up to $32,400 for the privilege, according to a Democratic National Committee
official.

The location of the event was not released, but Laguna Beach is home to notable Obama fundraiser Janet Keller, who serves on the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities and heads a fundraising and political strategy firm.

Obama will then go to Angel Stadium for the commencement ceremony.

The trip to the Coachella Valley is the president’s third in a year.

Last June, Obama met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Sunnylands estate in Rancho Mirage. In February, he had a summit at Sunnylands with King Abdullah II of Jordan.

Sunnylands spokeswoman Mary Perry said earlier today that the estate had no confirmation Obama was planning to return to the Coachella Valley.

Sunnylands is home to a nine-hole golf course, not far from Oracle founder Larry Ellison’s private 18-hole course at his Porcupine Creek estate.

Before arriving in the Southland June 13, the Obamas will visit an Indian reservation in North Dakota. They will fly back to Washington, D.C., the following Monday, according to the White House.
