Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York is preparing two three-mile “Healthy Body, Healthy Mind” running and walking fundraiser marathons with the Korean Road Runners Club next month.

The first marathon will kick off Aug. 8 at 7 a.m. inside Cunningham Park in Queens, and the second on Aug. 23 at 7 a.m. inside Central Park in Manhattan.

KCS said Thursday proceeds from the marathon would go toward the operation of its new mental health clinic, slated to open mid-August.

KRRC President Yoo Ki-taek said three miles is a good distance for both children and adults. He hopes the Korean American community comes out with family to find a healthy start to the day with fresh morning air.

“They say a healthy body equals a healthy mind. There’s nothing better for mental health than running,” said KCS President Kim Kwang-seok. “We’re planning on holding this event in New Jersey and Long Island in the future with a goal of raising $100,000 toward the clinic.”

Interested participants should register inside the KCS office at 35-56 159th Street or call 718-939-6137 before Aug. 5 for the first marathon or Aug. 19 for the second. The entry fee is $20 and an additional $10 for each spouse or child.
