[NY DAILY NEWS] Miss Lebanon in hot water over selfie with Miss Israel

[NEW YORK DAILY POST] She may become Miss Universe, but she can kiss Miss Congeniality goodbye.

The international beauty pageant may need to add a diplomatic relations competition after Miss Lebanon Saly Greige accused Miss Israel of trying several times to have a picture taken with her.

A selfie featuring the two contestants, as well as Miss Japan and Miss Slovenia, was posted Jan. 11 on Doron Matalon’s Instagram accountand has caused a fury in Greige’s home country for appearing with the Israeli beauty queen.

    Rather than capitulate to pressures and cynical political wrangling at home perhaps Miss Lebanon should have stood by the picture and have championed a chance for a showing of good will between two feuding states? If not then when and what’s the point of Miss Universe pageants anyway? Then again are we really surprised why there’s a lack of peace in the region in the first place …? Then again perhaps Hezbollah should field the next Miss Lebanon contestant, one well enough trained to resist a selfie from a Miss Israel combatant…
