Members of Easy Runners Club have trained hard for this weekend’s Long Beach marathon.

At least 359 Korean runners, including 170 members from Easy Runners Southern California Korean Marathon Club, will participate in the 29th running of the Long Beach Marathon on October 13th.

According to Easy Runners director James Kang, his group will be the third largest group of all participants this year. At least half of the club members least will be out to finish the race.

Other Korean clubs including Forest Runners (57 members) out of Buena Park, Los Angeles Running Club (39 members), ‘Dong Dal Mo’ of Irvine, South Bay Running Team (33 members), and the Korean Marathon Club (26 members) have also entered the marathon.

Members of Easy Runners Club, the largest Korean marathon club in southern California, meet to train every Sunday morning at Cerritos Regional park and have been training hard for this coming Sunday’s race.

Dong Dal Mo (Dongne Daligi Moim – literally translated to ‘Neighborhood Running Gathering’) from Irvine, with members hailing primarily from southern Orange County, gather at 6 a.m. every Sunday at Canyon Park behind the Albertson’s shopping center (at the corner of Culver and Irvine Boulevard). Their 80 members rage from 10-70 years old.

According to club representative Yong-Shik Kim, only two of their members are out to finish the race this time. Most of their members have signed up for the ‘Half marathon’ in order to build up their stamina and train for the Fresno Marathon in early November.

Forest Runners Club members meet and train at Buena Park’s Ralph B. Clark Regional Park every Saturday.

The Long Beach International City Bank Marathon is set to start on Shoreline Drive. The marathon route passes the new Pike at Shoreline Village, crosses the Queensway Bridge and runs to the bow of the Queen Mary, then circles back around the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Lighthouse at Rainbow Harbor, Pierpoint Landing, and goes back by Shoreline Village and down to the beach. Over 20,000 runners are expected to participate.
