Korean man buys Napoleon’s hat for 1.9 million euros

Napoleon Bonaparte’s famous bicorn hat has been sold to a Korean businessman for 1.9 million euros ($2.4 million), at the auction in Fontainebleau, near Paris, on Sunday.

The man was identified as Lee Tae Kyun, the manager of Korean food company called Harim in South Korea.

“I came for my boss, the head of the company. He wanted to buy it because we have a new building and the hat means something there, for the new generation,” said the bidder, requesting anonymity, according to AFP.

The South Korean buyer’s wining bid was 1.5 million euros, with added fees bringing the final price to almost 1.9 million euros.

Harim is a chicken-related food company, including Samgyetang export to the U.S., and the chief’s name is listed as Kim Hong-kuk.
