The current president of Korean American Federation of Los Angeles (KAFLA), James Ahn made it official that he will be running for the re-election.

Besides the President Ahn, Mr. Hyung-man Park, the chairman of the Korean Senior & Community Center, Mr. Hyung-Ho Kim, the chairman of the LA Senior Citizens Society, and Ms. Laura Jeon, the former vice president of KAFLA also showed their intention to run for the election by picking up the candidacy registration form.

According to the KAFLA election committee, Park, Kim, and Jeon all received the documents that are needed in order to register for candidacy on the last day of distribution of the form.

In the last ten years, KAFLA never had contested election due to repeated abstention due to a candidate, Nam Moonkey deciding not to run for the election in 2006. Also due to violations of election regulations, there has not been contested election in 2010, 2012, and 2014.

Hyung-Man Park who picked up the candidate documents first, said he would reconstruct the KAFLA and heighten its status and put a knot in the lawsuit with the Overseas Koreans Foundation. Park also showed his willingness to serve the Korean community.

Hyung-Ho Kim showed his aspiration with the platform of reconstructing parks and increasing green spaces for the benefit of the community. Kim also said he would serve the Korean community from the perspective of daily working class Korean-americans.

Laura Jeon who picked up the candidacy registration form the last, said that she learned how to contribute to the Korean community by serving as the vice president for the past two years.

Jeon also said it was a difficult decision to run against the current president Ahn but with the thirteen years of serving Korean Health Education Information & Research Center (KHEIR) as chairman, she wants to use her experience and expertise to improve the Korean community.

The candidates that picked up the registration form have to pay electoral deposit of $100,000 of which $50,000 is for the registration and the other half is for the election related expenses.
