Popular Japanese film “Love Letter” (1995) will be adapted into a Korean television drama this fall.

HB Entertainment, which was behind the hallyu hit “My Love from the Star” last year, is making the series in cooperation with Japanese entertainment company Amuse, reports said.

The cast for the series has not been decided yet, but reports speculated that it would include both Korean and Japanese stars.

Japan is showing high interests in the series, as the film remains the nation’s most beloved romance film. This year marks the film’s 20th anniversary.

“As My Love from the Star was hugely popular in China, we hope Love Letter will do the same for the stagnant Japanese broadcasting industry,” the Munhwa Ilbo quoted a Fuji TV insider as saying. Fuji TV partly owns the film’s copyright.

Love Letter is about two women who discover new things about a man they knew as they exchange letters. The film screened in Korea in 1999 and was hugely popular.
