HIV report prompts porn moratorium

August 28, 2014

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – The adult film industry’s trade association called for a moratorium on porn production today in response to a performer potentially being positive for HIV.

According to the Free Speech Coalition, the unnamed performer’s initial test came back positive at an industry testing center, but the results of additional tests to confirm the diagnosis were still pending.

“Confirmatory tests are not yet back but we are taking every precaution to protect performers and to determine if there’s been any threat to the performer pool,” said Diane Duke, CEO of the Free Speech Coalition.

“We take the health of our performers very seriously and felt that it was better to err on the side of caution while we determine whether anyone else may have been exposed,” she said.

No details on where the performer was tested have been released.

A majority of adult film production is believed to have moved out of Los Angeles County due to a 2012 voter-approved measure requiring performers to wear condoms.
