Russia kicked off its first-ever Winter Olympic Games in the Black Sea resort town of Sochi on Friday, setting off for a 17-day run with a dozen new competitions added to the program from the previous Winter Games.
The opening ceremony at Fisht Olympic Stadium began at 20:14 local time to coincide with the year.
