It’s never too late to learn.

87-year-old Eleanor Kops graduated from the University of Nebraska with about 750 other students on Sunday. Before starting up her education, she had not been to a college class since 1947.

Kops took a break from school then to marry her husband, Lyle, and went on to raise five daughters in Bassett, Neb.

When Lyle passed away in 2011, Kops needed something to do to help her cope with the loss and one of her children suggested she re-enroll in a university.

Two years later she received her degree in individualized studies. Kops isn’t sure what she’ll do now that she’s reached this milestone, but for now she wants to reflect on her accomplishment.

“I finally made it,” she told the Journal Star.
