Seoul’s Yongsan Police said Tuesday that they questioned Girls’ Generation Member Hyoyeon, 25, on suspicion of hitting a male friend in the face.

According to the police, the man, only identified as B, called the police Sunday after being hit in the eyes by Hyoyeon’s fingers after playing around on the second floor of a mutual friend’s home in Yong-san district.

Hyoyeon was joking that she would “fall to the first floor” on the balcony, and while restraining her, B was struck on the face.

B, who was angered by her behavior, called in the police on charges of assault.

The two were questioned by the Yongsan Police twice after the incident.

“I thought Hyoyeon was really going to jump onto the first floor and got hit trying to stop her, but thinking about it again, I don’t think she hit me on purpose,” B said to the police.

A police officer close to the investigation said the man did not sustain any injury and that although the incident was investigated because it was called in, it will likely close without charges.

B told the police that Hyoyeon usually jokes around strongly and that she was just joking that day as well, and that there was no mention of a will to commit suicide, the officer said.

S.M. Entertainment, who manages the group, said in a statement that a misunderstanding occurred while Hyoyeon was playing around with friends. It said the incident has ended as a “happening.”

“The police said to be cautious about playing around too forcefully, and she’ll be careful from now on to prevent any misunderstandings,” the statement said.
