‘Descendants of the sun’ stars deny rumors of offscreen romance

South Korea’s popular actress Song Hye-kyo, 34, publicly denied being in a relationship with co-star Song Joong-ki, 30, through her management agency on Monday.

Rumors had been running rampant recently in S. Korea that the “Descendants of the Sun” couple is an item in real life also, after an anonymous Internet user claimed to have seen them shopping and dining together in New York, and someone pointed out that they were wearing what appeared to be “couple’s bracelets” on the show.

The two Songs star in the KBS 2TV series in which the actor plays an Army captain and the actress a doctor. The two fall in love as they try to save lives in the fictional war-torn country called Uruk.

“Song Joong-ki is her good colleague with whom she’s done a TV series together,” UAA Korea said in a statement. ”We don’t feel the need to explain about the New York story, and we’ll just take that as fan interest.”

The agency was less forgiving about rumors that the actress has a “sponsor” to whom she offers sex in return for career-related favors.

“The rumors about sponsorship have already been proved to be untrue by prosecutors in 2013,” the agency said. “We don’t understand why it’s being brought up again, and we won’t tolerate it.”

UAA Korea said it has filed a complaint with the police accusing several Internet users of spreading malicious rumors and asked law enforcement to track down the rumors’ source.

Meanwhile, Song Joong-ki’s agency, Blossom Entertainment, also released a statement saying, “In regards to the New York story, we just happened to have dined together while on vacation, and as far as the bracelets are concerned, it was a pure coincidence as we just to happen to each wear what our stylists provided for us.”
