A group of students at Michigan’s Washtenaw International High School gathered to hold an event April 17 to help orphaned North Korean defectors.

Hanmaeum, a volunteer organization from Chicago, donated about $3,000 toward the effort at the Korean Dinner event, which sponsors the Kumkang School for North Korean refugee children.

Funds will go to the school and toward scholarships for refugees’ education.

Traditional Korean dances, musical performances and a magic show were featured at the fundraising dinner.
